Icon is run by a team of dedicated, professional art handlers with years of experience servicing the needs of art collectors, museums and foundations from around the world. They also love art because they are artists themselves. Among them are sculptors, photographers, painters and poets - all with a deep appreciation for the items put in their care.
Icon Art Services has provided the art world specialty services from its Chicago base since 1980. Founded by Bruce MacGilpin, Icon strives to provide the highest level of storage and art handling services available in the Midwest or anywhere. In 2023, Icon was acquired by the art services powerhouse Delaware Freeport LLC and now benefits from an extensive international network with the capability to service the global art market. Delaware Freeport, the only U.S. foreign trade zone (FTZ) warehouse exclusively for artworks, owns and operates a number of warehouses and storage facilities in New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Illinois, as well as its own crate shops and NY based trucking company.
Bruce MacGilpin

Bruce MacGilpin’s early career as a printmaker and sculptor imbued him with a love of art that led him to found The Icon Group in 1980. Since then, he has steadfastly led the company as it grew from a single art-moving van to include a 93,000-square-foot Chicago facility, a fleet of trucks, and nearly 30 employees. His mission: keep art objects in pristine condition for clients such as museums, galleries, auction houses, and private collectors. Bruce guided the company as its reputation for quality services grew, ensuring the business remained strong for over 40 years. Along the way, he had considerable help from his wife and life partner, Ingrid Fassbender. Ingrid’s experience as an international gallerist brought art world savvy, contacts, and sales and marketing skills. Ms. Fassbender sadly passed away in 2022. In 2023, MacGilpin’s longtime friend and art services colleague, Fritz Dietl, along with Delaware Freeport partners, acquired The Icon Group and renamed it Icon Art Services, LLC. Bruce now serves as Icon’s Managing Director where he can continue to use his experience to help the company transition into an exciting new phase of its growth.
